I’m going to reply to each one of your statements, okay? :D Okay! The bold and italic ones are mine. :3

16anddragonborn:

I hate to be the critical ass hole, but I fucking hate people who try to play the cute nerd act. Being a nerd use to be a bad and unpopular thing. And today’s culture associates anyone who doesnt party, isnt highly social, and has the slightest interest in video games as a nerd. And these phrases don’t really have anything to do with “being a nerd”. Here’s why:

1. Nerd’s arent all insomniacs. It’s retarded to assume that a person who is nerdy stays up all night writing fan fic and playing D&D. That hardly associates directly to being nerdy.

Nerds aren’t all insomniacs, true, but a lot of us are. I can relate to staying up until the sunrise because I just lost track of time with how focused I was on what I was doing. And also, D&D not being associated with being nerdy? Okay, even if you went with the ‘academic nerd’ stereotype, it’s still a common thing, because D&D is so heavily math based.

2. Reading makes you a nerd? Trying to force that idea is why reading is so unpopular these days. I hate that being educated is now associated with negative opinons.

You notice that we aren’t exactly afraid to say we’re nerds. We’ve taken a term that once had a negative stigma and made it into something cool. We beat the system, and made the word our own. We take pride in who we are, and we take pride in reading. There’s no reason to assume associating reading with being a nerd is a bad thing, unless you’re still afraid of the word.

3. I’m certain that if a child said that, you wouldn’t call him a nerd. Star Wars is often a nerd culture thing, but you have to keep in mind how many people pretend to be obsessed with star wars just to be “such a nerd lol”, yet don’t know the difference between Boba and Jango Fett.

Seriously… How do you even know that she doesn’t know the difference between Boba and Jango? Do you know her? Also, do you know how many nerds own replica lightsabers? We can relate to this pretty darn easy.

4. Lets just stick with number 3 for this one too.

She’s wearing a Boba Fett helmet, OBVIOUSLY SHE THINKS IT’S JANGO’S. THAT MAKES TOTAL SENSE.

5. I think the idea that nerds are smart, witty, and sarcastic people is created solely to make nerd culture more appealing. Not all nerds have quick and clever statements like sheldon. Once upon a time, nerds were anti-social castaways.

Yes, once upon a time, nerds were viewed as a whole to be social outcasts and introverts. But now isn’t that kinda of similar to assuming that all nerds are insomniacs?

6. Do you know how many people use the term noob now? It’s like people who use fail and owned, but hardly use the internet or play video games. We generally pick up popular phrases from our friends without questioning what it means. People just like to use words that are popular.

HOW DARE NERDS USE A POPULAR WORD OF OUR DAY AND AGE. THE BLASPHEMY. If it’s so popular, why aren’t we allowed to say it?

7. This one is far to common and easy to rant about these days. The “gurl gamer”. People have accepted gaming as a fairly universal and acceptable thing in this era. With the Kinect and Wii, gaming is family oriented. But the second a girl wants to play call of duty she’s a “gurl gamerrr” and she is so nerdy and lame and all the guys will want her now. The fact of the matter is, video games are as common as people who use the internet.

I don’t think the fact that she was a girl had anything to do with how it relates to her being a nerd. She’s a nerd, who is also a girl. Nerds play video games, and nerds are also sometimes female.

8. Really? Cause need connection to the internet makes you a total nerd. Or maybe you just need to use the internet. Especially since iPhones are so common and internet is just more convenient.

The point of that joke was that nerds commonly can’t go five seconds without checking the internet. I thought that was kind of obvious.

9. I’ll be honest, I don’t even get this one. The only thing that comes to find is the fact that actual CD’s are nearly extinct since digital format is the way of the future. So I guess that kind argues it right there?

Once again, this is poking fun at how nerds like to be on the cutting edge of technology. I… also kinda thought that was obvious.

And I dont think anyone relates tattoos, piercings, and plugs as nerdy.

Because nerds aren’t allowed to get them? Is that a law? Do you know how many nerdy themed tattoos I’ve seen and plan to get?

My statements are bold and italic.
